Thomas H. De Buys



Thomas H. De Buys was born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1948. He obtained an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1970. From 1971 to 1974, he served on active duty as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. De Buys attended and obtained a law degree from the University of Alabama in 1977. During law school, he was a member of the United States Reserve Officers Military Pentathlon Team and represented the United States in Norway (1974), Greece (1975), and Denmark (1976). Later in his career, Mr. De Buys attended and graduated from Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer’s College in 1996. For the last 29 years, Mr. De Buys has represented clients in the areas of personal injury law, criminal law, and general civil litigation. This has involved counseling clients regarding their claims and cases, preparing for and trying cases in courts of law and in arbitration hearings throughout the State of Washington, and working to achieve fair and just settlements on behalf of each of his clients.


Thomas H. De Buys’ philosophy and focus in the practice of law is to provide personal attention and tailored representation for each client. He feels it is important to have good communication with each client, and to keep each client educated and informed about his or her case throughout his representation. With open and honest communication, Mr. De Buys can better learn and understand his client’s entire story and provide the best representation possible.

Susan Locke grew up in Everett, Washington, and graduated from Mariner High School in 2004. She attended Seattle Central Community College and then Seattle Pacific University (SPU) with a 4-year scholarship from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in 2006 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 2008. While a senior at SPU, Susan received the Psychology Faculty Award, an annual recognition of a senior student enthusiastic about learning in the field of Psychology and who makes noteworthy contributions to classroom experiences or extra-curricular programs in the department. Susan’s long term educational goal is to obtain a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.

Susan is also fluent in American Sign Language (“ASL”) and is working towards obtaining her interpreting certificate. She volunteers as an ASL interpreter at the Sunday Services at New Beginnings Church in Everett, Washington, and is a member of their Community Outreach and Drama Teams. In addition, Susan was an AWANA leader in her church in 2007.

Susan has been a legal assistant since 2003, and has been working with Thom De Buys since August 2006 helping him with his personal injury, criminal law, and general civil litigation practice.
